The board has the sata-power 12vdc pins in place, but not hooked up to anything (obviously). So if you just solder solder those pins with the positive line from a donor 12v power brick ($1 at most any thrift store) it'll be able to spin up full size disks.

This was great! Used the cable to migrate my Laptop's 5400RPM drive to a new SSD using Macron. Gets the job done and I highly recommend it as a tool in the toolbox for migrating hard drives.
